This engine was meant to be a spare for my sons 1978 Volkswagen Bus / transporter, so it rebuilt and sealed up that could stored long time in closet then shipped where needed. Pistons and rods were balanced cylinders honed new piston rings installed. If you currently drive a Type 2 air cooled VW Bus from 1975-1979 that uses the 1.7L, 1.8L, or 2.0L flat 4, this engine is direct bolt in replacement and could provide ready to go backup protection against unexpected breakdowns, quick fix current breakdown, since parts expertise for these engines becoming increasingly rare. If someone happens to be looking for a specific engine serial number range complete restoration project, I also have the matching magnesium fan housing this engine; otherwise, my assumption is that most people will just bolt all of their old accessories directly one. The engine started as a low miles motor from wrecked bus, and my tear down inspection verified it was in excellent condition. 2 people can easily move it around without a dolly, but its heavy for 1 person; It scoots well on most flooring. Cylinder heads were rebuilt with new valves, guides, and valve seats.

The crankshaft journals only needed to be polished, and the original cam hydraulic lifters showed very light wear, so these were re-used. I have had this engine safely stored for the last 5 years in condition, and rotated about every 3 - months. All engine seals were replaced with better than OEM Vito versions. My son recently sold his bus, so the spare engine is no longer needed, hence reason I'm selling it.
